Verification
This text is the dashboard’s tour for this page.
1.A captcha before anyone can talk
With verification on, a new member sees the verification channel and the public read-only channels, and nothing else, until they solve a captcha. Solving it gives them the member role, and that role opens the rest of the server. Bots and raids stop at the door.
The captcha is a 3×3 grid of pictures: the member counts the squares that show your server’s logo and picks the number in a dropdown, so it works on a phone without typing. Three wrong answers and they press Start again. A member who is stuck can ask in the help channel the blueprint made for exactly that (🆘┃help_verifying).
2.The switch
On means the Start button hands out the member role after a correct answer. Off means the button answers that verification is switched off and gives nothing; existing members keep their role. Like every page here, a change is a draft until you press Publish.
3.Channel and role
The verification channel is where the captcha message lives; the blueprint made one (✅┃verify_start) that only unverified members can see. The verified member role is the one the bot gives after a correct answer; the blueprint’s member role is preselected when the setup made it. The bot’s own role must sit above this role in Server Settings › Roles, or Discord refuses the hand-out; the Server setup page tells you when that is the case.
4.Three messages
Verification message: the message in the channel with the Start button. Captcha grid: the message with the grid and the dropdown; {expiry} and {attempts} are filled in. Welcome message: the private “you’re in” a member gets after solving, with links to the channels worth visiting first. Each has an editor with a live preview; {server} and {bot} are filled in with this server’s and this bot’s name, {user} with the member’s in the captcha grid and the welcome message (the verification message is posted once for everyone, so it has no member to name).
5.Save and publish
Save keeps a draft. Publish makes the draft live and posts the verification message into the channel, editing the one already there so the Start button never moves. Delete message removes it from the channel; Publish posts it again.
